Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI have plum tree that I bought early this year. It looked dead and I planted it in April but it didn’t bud. However, recently it has produced about 20 shoots from just below soil level. What should I do with it?

Have you conducted a scratch test on the tree https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/tgen/tree-scratch-test.htm [1]
If the scratch test does not show ‘green’ then if this is not a grafted tree then the growth from the base would be considered desirable growth that you could leave and encourage to become the new trunk.
