plants to keep out road traffic noise

i live on a main road with a front raised garden. There is considerable noise in the front living room. what plants can i place to form a hedge that will block out some noise?

Hi, I live in an association and we had the same situation come up recently about some homes facing the street on one side…. We checked with our gardener and with our city. Waiting for the answers, but you can call or visit any gardening store they are always helpful. Best to you!
