Planting Potted Fig Trees

I purchased two fig trees, an Olympian and Brown Turkey, when I lived in Ohio. Kept them in pots and they did very well. I have since moved to Florida and brought the trees with me. They both lost their leaves, turned yellow and fell off. I gave them fertilizer and the leaves came back, nice and green. However the figs that were on the plants never matured, dried up and fell off. Can I plant these tree in the ground here in Florida? The soil here is rather sandy, what would be the best way to plant them?

The brown turkey fig is suitable for growing in hardiness zones to 11 and Olympian performs well to zone 10. So you are probably OK with the change in climate. You can plant them in the soil in Florida. Sandy soil would benefit with some amendments added to increase soil fertility and make it less porous. Plant in late fall or early spring.
