pepper plants dropping their leaves

All my green pepper plants suddenly, within 3-4 days, dropped all of their leaves. I don’t see any pests, have drip watering system, and they are in containers (5-gal buckets). I do live where it is HOT but water twice a day, sometimes more.

In order to know what happened, you’ll need to be a detective. Questions to ask — did the leaves turn yellow or black, or curl, or get spots of any kind before they fell? Are the roots healthy — if you dig around them, are there maggots in them, or is the soil too wet (muddy and soggy), or are there bugs hiding in the soil?
