parade roses care (indoors)

I received two small pots of parade roses as a gift while in a nursing home. I wasn’t able to water them, etc. When I got home, I trimmed them to their stems. They are leafing out, but that is the extent of what I know about how to care for them. I would like to raise them indoors.

You will want to find a nice sunny location for them but it need not be direct sunlight that can get intense enough to burn the foliage. Buy a moisture meter if you do not have one. Use the moisture meter to keep an eye on the soils moisture. You do not want the soil too wet, just moist. We like to place the entire container in the kitchen sink and rinse it down when it needs some water. Rinse off the foliage a bit and water them well. Let sit in the sink for at least a half hour so that the soils drain well. Lightly tamp the moisture off of the leaves with a dry soft towel. Then place back in their sunny spot. Feeding them once in a while with some Peters or Miracle grow water soluble fertilizer is good to keep them performing well. You can use a table fork to work up the soils lightly once in a while to keep the soils light so it will receive water and nutrients better. We even mix a couple tablespoons of Epsom Salts in a gallon container and give all of the roses that about every 6 months at the time that they need watering.
