outdoor calla lilies have a green mass of round nodules inside

Why do my outdoor calla lilies have a mass of round connected green nodules filling the flower? This is on one of my plants. . . not any other.

This is the seedpod, which should be left to ripen on the plant before collecting for seed propagation or you may cut it off.
