ornamental weeping cherry tree, branches bare, bark curling & skinny brown worms in exposed roots

My ornamental weeping cherry tree is full of dead branches & the roots are really exposed from all the downpours we had his summer. Now the bark is curling & sap is oozing out of exposed roots. I really checked it & saw no bugs. Yesterday I noticed the exposed roots were splitting open so used bug spray & all these really skinny brown worms came out!! help

It could be wood borers. You do need to prune out the dead wood. These articles should help.
