Ordered Roses in Fall

I ordered two Dorothy Perkins and it will be mailed next week, Oct 12. I guess it will be too late to plant this in the ground as first frost is around the corner, so I will be planting this on a pot. Is the store bought potting soil with fertilizer mixture safe to use? And where will I hide my plant from the cold? I mean place it out when temp is above freezing then hide it in the garage when there is freezing temp coming?

It is a little too late to plant them in the ground. They just would not have the time to get established before the cold weather came.

Putting it in a pot would be fine and the garage is the perfect place for keeping it over the winter. Cut back on the amount of water you give it (water only once or twice a month) to keep it in dormancy over the winter.
