Older Dogwood Trees

Question

My Fifteen Year old Dogwood Trees did not green up or flower this spring. They are located in my front yard. While the ones in my backyard and side yard did beautifully! Looking at them close up they are not totally dead. When I break small branches there is green
inside. They were not drastically pruned last year. And I know to prune after the flowering is over with. I am having a difficult time figuring why no green leaves appeared this spring or red/fushia pink flowers appeared either. The two trees affected
the same way and at the exact same time is strange as well. They would look healthy if it
were winter season. But, now they look very strange with no green leaves. All the trees
in my yard and the neighborhood are now green.
The only clue of an idea might be the yellow viney ground cover planted under the two trees. But, that too has been there for years. I keep it trimmed low with a lawn trimmer. And even from time to time pull it away from both tree trunks. However, I
did not think a ground cover plant could choke off and kill two fully grown established
trees. What might be your views?

When a tree dies or in your case possible 2, it is a process of determining the cause and even with detective work, sometimes no cause can be determined.

I would also suggest talking with your County Extension Office. They may have some insight to your region and it’s weather, diseases and pests.
