Noise Reduction- outdoor

Question

Hi we need help! We have moved from a very quiet house to a new house where the noise of traffic in our courtyard is louder than we had ever expected. The courtyard has no soil and is only painted concrete. It is currently empty (which I expect is perpetuating the noise reverberating off the walls). Which plants would you recommended for effective noise reduction? I’ve also read an artificial buxus hedge could be effective if densely attached to the wall- is an artificial plant effective in reducing noise?

Lots of varieties work in planters, but dwarf varieties and those with slow growth are the easiest. Conifers – especially evergreens – require less food and nutrients than trees with broad leaves. They also adapt better to the restricted root area of containers. Pines and junipers grow well in dry soil which is common with container gardens. Bamboo trees (to the left) grow quickly in containers and make great privacy screens.
You should start with your growing zone, to choose plants or trees suited to your region.

Visit local garden centers or greenhouses for some ideas on plants that you may enjoy and would be suitable to your yard. What type of sunlight will the plantings be exposed to?
I can’t speak to an artificial hedge.
