female squash seems to stop grow when the blossom falls off

My female squash seems to stop grow when the blossom falls off, is this normal? I have multiple male and female growth, flowering like crazy and several female buds very closely together. Can too many females close together be too much for one plant?

the blossom will fall off when the flower is pollinated, this should cause the vine to set fruit. watch and see if the base of the flower startes to enlarge.
