My bromeliead broke off from the roots.

I have the plant for 2 months; this is my first one. I keep it indoors. The leaves were still green, the bloom died, but the entire plant broke apart from the root. The part that broke has an odor. Is the part that is still in the soil still alive?

I’m afraid it appears that the plant has decayed at the base and will not regrow from the lower portion still in the ground. This could be due to over-watering or the moss material in the pot retaining too much moisture.
