Move a Sago

I planted a Sago Palm 4 weeks ago (Eastern North Carolina). It is doing beautifully, putting out a lot of new growth. I realized I may have planted it too close to the driveway, at 27 inches from the edge. However, it is described as slow-growing. Should I move it now, move it this winter or can I just leave it where it is? How long until it starts to hang over the driveway? Fronds are about 18 to 20 inches out from the trunk now, so 7 to 9 inches from the edge. By the time they hang over the driveway, how tall will the plant be? If tall enough, the overhang won’t matter, especially if the lower fronds can be trimmed off.

I would greatly appreciate your advice with this, since I love the plant and don’t want to damage or kill it with an unnecessary move if I can avoid it.

It takes about 50 years for a sago palm to reach its mature size of 10 to 12 feet tall with an equal leaf spread.

This is a tough decision, move now or later. I would suggest checking with a Palm Arborist in your area. There is risk in moving again or later.
