Fall is a good time to apply moss killer and apply a lawn fertilizer.
You can then follow up by raking up any dead moss material.
Piercing the areas of the lawn that have the moss will help aerate the lawn and aid in the moss dying. A garden fork is a good tool to use for this.
In the spring you can repeat this process. When raking out the dead moss in the spring you will need to take more care as to not harm the new spring grass.
