Maple Tar Tree Spot – Extreme!

My tree has Maple Tar Tree spot – a 12 year old maple. The leaves are dying and falling off. is there anything I can do? this is the worst it has been, although the tree gets it most years. thank you

The fungus moves with the wind so there is not much you can do to prevent it. The good news is it doesn't really hurt the tree but is unsightly. When the leaves fall, the fungus goes with it. The challenge is trying to prevent it the next year.

Start by cleaning up the fallen leaves and disposing of them in the trash. Reducing moisture buildup can also help. Here is more:
