long main stem on zucchini

My zucchini is not like a bush but the main stem is long with only a few leaves and buds at the end of the long main stem.

There are many varieties of Zucchini and this may be the growing pattern of this particular plant.
Also soil and environmental conditions can effect how a plant grows.
