Lemon trees

We had a landscaper look at our trees to trim them. One is a lemon tree & he indicated the lemon tree had a problem. He suggested we treat the tree first. He advised to treat with one gallon of Clorox mixed with 4 gal. of water in 5 gal bucket & pour around tree drip line. Do this four times allowing to soak in between applications. I am not finding any mention of this on line. What would this treatment be for, and is there any potential damage to tree?

You are very smart to be concerned and question this practice. This is a very concentrated chemical solution, and to be repeated like that could very well be detrimental.

To be polite, if you like him otherwise for the pruning, you can ask him what is the disease condition and how he has diagnosed it if not evident to you, and how he arrived at this treatment program. Send us photos of the tree and the site and his comments. We may be able to provide a better treatment recommendation, if needed.

But my gut feeling and 50 plus years of tree and landscape work, starting in Phoenix with lots of citrus experience, is that I wouldn’t be especially polite, but fire him and look elsewhere.
