leaves on my new calla lilly potted plant are turning light green and eventually fall off

I hope you re-planted the calla lily because most florist plants are root bound or in smaller pots than are best for the plant. A small pot may not have enough potting mix. With too little potting mix, the soil can't hold enough water to meet the plant's needs. Calla lily should be able to handle 80-90 F if kept moist. Move it to a shaded spot or cover it with row cover / shade cloth if it seems to struggle. Since this is a new plant to you, you don't know how long it has been blooming. There is a chance that your plant feels like it has bloomed long enough and is entering dormancy. Dormancy is a normal part of calla lily's life cycle; if your plant started the year in the Southern hemisphere, it may be out of synch with Ohio seasons. If it shuts down totally, leave the tubers in the pot outside until late fall. They should over-winter indoors in a cool, dry location. Plant outside mid to late spring – after the soil warms. A new bloom – dormancy cycle will start again. My hope is that a larger container will stop yellowing of leaves. Examine the roots when repotting; if they are mushy, they are getting too much water. Calla lilies need moist soil and monthly fertilizer to stay healthy, but I think it depends a lot on the health of the plant when you received/purchased it. Most problems are due to over or under watering. Here is info on how much to water:
