Leaves Fall Off of Fig Tree

I planted a fig tree (Turkish variety) in my parent’s yard about two years ago. Their home is in central Texas. Both years, all of the leaves fell off during July. The tree was planted per the supplied instructions. It received full sun. The soil is well drained and is fertilized once per year. The leaves show no sign of being eaten by pests and there is no sunburning. The leaves seem to break off easily between the trees twigs and the leaf stems. Any ideas?
