Law About Neighbour Chopping Down Tall Garden Screen Overhanging Into Mine

This is a well established, mature privacy screen which is planted in my neighbour’s side, but overhangs into my garden and he has chopped it all down leaving an unsightly, hacked mess. I welcomed the privacy and thought that he could not touch the overhang in my garden! Am I right, or did he have the right to chop it all away from my side as well?

What right does a neighbour have to chop down a privacy screen that has been established in his garden, but overhangs into my garden providing a very welcome privacy screen on my side? Can he chop down the overhang on my side?

Laws and ordinances vary between municipalities, you would need to check what is on the books for your area.
