It looks like your region is plant hardiness zone 7 or 8. I do not not know if this location where the urns are is is part sun or shade. ‘Interesting’ is all according to each person’s personal taste, but here are some that I think are pretty neat!
Daphne odora ‘Aureomarginata’ (zone 7 or 9)

Ribes laurifolium (zone 7 to 8)
