Lady Slippers

I read your article, but have a question. Two clumps of ady slippers have been growing naturally under the outer branches of a rhododendron. The rhody needs treatment for chlorosis. I need to treat with iron sulfate and possibly an annual Espoma Holly-Tone. 1. Will the lady slippers tolerate this amendment for the rhodys. 2. How far from the lady slippers should I not sprinkle Iron-Tone and/or Holly-Tone? Thank you. Hope to hear from someone in the know.

Have you had a soil test done so you only add what is really necessary? You are very lucky to have lady slippers growing and it would be a shame to lose them. When you determine the least your rhody needs, go as much organic as you can. I would steer clear of the lady slipper when applying anything. You also could contact a grower or retailer of lady slippers for more exact advice.
