Jasmine cutting are all turning brown, are they dead?

I have confederate jasmine — it is beautiful and healthy and I’m super pleased with it. My sister loves it too and wanted some clippings, so I did everything I thought I was supposed to do, but my clippings are all turning brown.

Are they supposed to do that? I used fresh growth, 6-8 inches long, removed lower leaves, used rooting compound, good potting soil, they have been misted a few times daily so they’re moist but not soaked, they are on a shaded area of my patio.

I have propagated other plants in this way and haven’t ever had anything turn brown and look like it was dead.

I wouldn’t use potting soil, since most contain quite a bit of nutrients. This will burn sensitive newly forming roots. I recommend trying again, or putting those cuttings for a second chance into some seedling mix, moss, or any other media with little to no nutrients. This will get you much better results in the future.
