japanese maple losing healthy leaves

The top ends of my Japanese maple are falling off. The leaves look healthy, not dried or curled or brown leaves, but their normal green color. It is happening on the top of the tree. The neighbor’s trees just 5 feet away are in perfect condition.

Your tree may be stressed and it is not unusual for a tree to drop it’s leaves to conserve energy.
Summer heat and drought could be a cause, as well as to much water.

Mulch your tree with 2 1/2 to 3 inches of hardwood mulch to help insulate the roots and prevent evaporation.
Water deeply twice a week during the hot summer months.
Do not try to fertilize it into feeling better. Do not apply any fertilizer at this time.
Stressed trees can invite insects and disease, so watch carefully for any signs of these issues.
