Is it possible to propagate Elephant ear bulbs by cutting them in half?

In years past, when I dig up colocassia tubers at the end of the growing season, I am mindful to care for the bulb offshoots. In a discussion with a neighbor, he suggested the idea of cutting the bulbs in half as a type of propagation. Is this approach likely to be successful?
