Is It Okay To Guide Vines Straight Down From Top Of Trellis

I’m growing four dragonfruit plants in a large pot up a 6 foot fence post trellis. Once the plants reach the top of the trellis, is it okay to train them straight downwards from the top of the trellis or would this affect the fruit?

The leaves can get very long so it may be difficult. You can give it a try, though. They also do well as hanging plants.
