Is It OK To Have A Garden Bed Along An Exterior Wall Of Your House?

I have recently purchased a new home with garden beds along the exterior walls. I have been told this can attract termites &/or compromise the integrity of the wall

It is OK to have beds in front of the exterior walls, but the plants should not be so close to the wall that they touch it. If they do, the plant is likely under the eaves and won't get much water. Plus, as you say, the plants could mar the wall. By the same token, mulch should not be right up against the wall either. If they are perennials, come out at least a foot from the wall. If they are foundation shrubs, they should be 3 feet from the house. That gives them space to grow without bumping up against the house.
