Is it better to keep Urn plants in pots rather than the ground

The pot that my Urn plant is in is getting full. When I got it, there was one plant, now there are 3 mature plants and one 3 inch fingerling – pup. How do I separate and can they be planted directly in the ground or do they need to stay in pots?

This video will demonstrate how to separate the pups:

You’re in zone 9. Most urn plants are only hardy to zone 10. So they likely would not survive year round where you will if planted in the ground.
