Impatiens and Tomato Plants

I was told that I cannot plant impatiens on top of my upside-down patio garden container if I put tomato plants in the upside-down part to grow. The impatiens would supposedly taint and poison the tomatoes. Is that true?

Actually yes. These plants are prone to certain diseases, such as impatiens necrotic rot and tomato spotted wilt virus, which when planted together or near one another can make them more susceptible to the diseases.
