Identifying a plant and pruning it

We have recently moved house and have a lovely garden but are not very knowledgeable about gardening. Would you be able to help me identify this plant and tell me how to prune it. It is getting very wide so I want to cut it back but don’t know if it will grow again if I cut off all the leaves which seem to be on the outside of the plant.

Can you include your growing zone? This looks like a few different things. I can narrow it down and help you to pinpoint this when I know what region it is located in.
