Ideas needed for large area

We have a large garden with two sides having lawn. Towards the rear, we have 24 ft of trellis going across. In front of this we have completely dug up all the weeds and now have bare earth which I am continuing to kill off anything weedy that puts in an appearance. I am reluctant to grass this area because of continuous weed problems in the future (plus we already have enough lawn) but I have no ideas what to put in this area. It is 8 ft wide x 24 ft long. I did think of black plastic topped with stones. I do not want paving or slabs because we already have an area of 25 ft long x 15 ft wide patio area. Yes, it is a BIG garden!

You don’t mention whether the area is in shade or sun a mix, but I can give you a few lists. Perhaps some plant to grow on the trellis: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/vines/ovgen/growing-perennial-vines.htm ^[1]

There are so many possibilities – you could use all flowering material, or all foliage, or a mix of both. You might want to access the local Master Gardener organization. They have loads of information and assistance available for home gardeners. This link will help you locate the nearest group:
