I Need Help Choosing A Tree … Pls See Description

I need a short tree at full height. Maybe no higher than 8 ft. Not a lot of issues. NOT Drought sensitive. This tree is for outdoors year round in A POT in front corner of tiny yard in town with utilities running underground….hence the pot. The pot is permanently attached in the yard. So it stays outside year round and I can cover in winter if need be. Full sun. Pot has good drainage. Soil will be purchased in a bag as required. I would like something ornamental that can be pruned in the shape if a ball or a mushroom….something cute. Zone 6. I am NOT good with plants so it needs to be an easy one to maintain please? Even a cute juniper? pruned in a ball, although prefer color but not mess left from leaves and fruit to clean up. Zoning rules are a pain…I could do without fines.

There are several evergreens that can be pruned into a "ball" that would do well in your zone 6. There are many boxwood cultivars that max out at dwarf heights. Juniper and arborvitae also have selections that would work. Chamaecyparis (False Cypress), holly bushes, and one of my favorites: 'Sunshine' privet.
