I Live In Zone 5. When Can I Expect My Japanese Ornamental Sedge Grass To Show New Growth?

I planted the low growing variety as a border last spring and loved what it added to the front of my home. Then the plants went dormant in winter, I did not trim back until early this spring as directed. It is now mid-May and there is no sign of green or new growth. Today I decided I would need to replace the plants so I tried to dig one up, but the roots still seemed to be in tact beneath the soil. Please advise.

They most likely did not make it through winter. Japanese sedge is typically hardy to zone 6 and you are zone 5. You might be able to find a variety that is hardy to zone 4 or 5.
