to catch; we have tried traps and other things, but if he smells human he just walks clear. How can I get rid of them (it’s a family) The ground is fertile and used to grow corn (in cob form, And most other veg.) corn being our staple. The intruder just loves corn. We have set traps, (deep hole covered with branches, etc) he just sniffs and bypasses. We don’t want to use posion because of other more friendly wildlife. My home is 1.5km from equator (north) in Kenya.
Stopping this animal is very important to me for my family to get answer. The animal has very sharp claws and is very aggressive and mostly nocturnal.

Fencing or trapping may be the most effective way to consider in your situation. If it is not possible to fence your corn field, then trapping may be the best way. But you will need a different kind of trap than the pit method you tried. Use a baited wire trap. Bait the trap with the corn it likes, or salted peanut butter or salted apple or other fruit. When you have the porcupine in a closed wire trap, then relocate and release it at least 40 kilometers away so it won’t return.

You may be able to find someone to trap and remove the animals for you. Porcupine is used for the meat as well as the quills for various purposes.
