I Desperately Want To Dig Up The Spanish Bluebells That Are Invading Our Back Yard.

Unfortunately they surround a cherry tree and a plum tree, both of which were planted after the bluebells, which must have been lurking underground for years. They create a wet and slimy mess after blooming, and they multiply like crazy.

Unfortunately, weed killers don't seem to work on Spanish bluebells that are spread by underground runners connected to bulbs. The best thing to do is dig them up. I know that seems impossible if you have a large infestation.

You might try a weed killer first to see if that helps at all, then go at it by digging when they are actively growing.
