how to treat bee balm with mold on leaves

Our plants are growing well and flowered well, but the leaves look terrible due to having mold on them.
Not enough sun? Zone 4

Can they be cut down without affecting their growth for next year?

Can you include a photo? Is this a white, powdery substance, or is it another color? Powdery mildew is most common, and can be gotten rid of quite easily.
