Here is a link to an article on the pruning subject. Also, if you are looking at pruning the rosebush after it has bloomed for it to create new growth and blooms, I would prune it down to the first 5-leaf junction with the cane. Then seal the end of the cut cane with white regular Elmers glue. Not the school glue as that tends to wash off. Check in with your local Rose Society too and get tips from them.
