How often should carpet roses bloom?

My carpet rose seems to bloom once and not again. Is this normal?

Many rose varieties have a flush of blooms in June and then pause for a few weeks while gaining energy to send up another flush of blooms. In addition, roses don’t like heat and sulk when it is over 85. I do too so I can’t blame them! Make sure you give them an inch of water weekly, about 5 gallons per plant, and up that to 2 inches in hot streaks. Mulch 2-3 inches deep to preserve moisture and keep the soil cooler. Lastly, fertilize with a bloom booster or rose fertilizer as instructed on the container. Long-acting pellets are better than liquid formulations. If all else fails, do a soil test through your state Extension Service. This low cost test identifies deficiencies and tells you how to correct them for the plant type you are growing, grass, veggies, flowers, trees, etc. I like to add 2 inches of compost under each bush in the spring to provide some micronutrients and improve the soil structure. While landscape roses are said to require little pruning, make sure dead, diseased and damaged canes are removed promptly to forestall disease.
