How do I overwinter a Japanese maple in a container?

I live in Zone 5. It’s a very small (10″ tall) Hiyo Kime Japanese maple. Should I bring it into my garage (it never gets below 40 degrees), bury the container in a pile of mulch, or just leave it out?

You can either bring it into the garage or bury it in leaves. If you bring it into the garage, just make sure to water it about once a month. It will be dormant, so it will not need much water, but it will need some.
