Depending on how large this split is, you can try to make clean cuts with a sharp, clean knife, to expose the cambium layer which may already be scabbing over. Then press the split parts together and tie or wrap them so the remain in place. This may cause the split area to grow back together. Just don’t tie or wrap it up with anything that can cause more damage, like wire. This article may help
