Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comYesterday I noticed the Japanese maple tree in my yard starting oozing sap at the bottom of the trunk. After researching, I learned it was gummosis and it seems a canker may be starting but I was wondering how I could treat this issue. I scraped off the ooze before I took a picture but I uploaded a picture of growing canker. Thank you for your help in advanced!

This can indicate that the ground remains too moist. The area should dry, thoroughly, down to several inches between waterings. I would make sure to treat with a fungicide to prevent any bacteria from taking hold, but this still looks like an early care. This will mean that saving the tree can be quite easy.
