Health of garden veggies

I have a blackberry bush near a chain link fence. It seems the vines closest to it are dying. I am moving so I have planted my garden plants in containers and I was going to allow them to grow near my fence, actually tie my tomato plants to the chain link fence if I am here long enough. I was wondering if the metal in a new chain link fence would damage my garden veggies. Thanks

The fence itself should not have an adverse effect on your plants. In fact, many types of plants are commonly grown along chain-link fences. If the blackberry is in a container as well, then it could be an issue with water (plants in containers require more water) or the roots may be constricted. In a container these plants need extra room for their root growth. You can cut away any dead/dying growth. Check the moisture in your pot and also look for pests that may be affecting your plant. If you see any insects or signs of their having been there, you can treat the plant with neem oil. This organic insecticide also doubles as a fungicide should this become an issue as well.
