Growing southern magnolia trees from seed pod inside the flower?

I read that Magnolias produce red seeds which can be used to grow more trees. Does that only apply to certain type of magnolia or does it apply to cutting open the seed pod within the southern magnolia flower & finding the red seeds inside the flowers pod?

They will be readily visible when they are ripe. You won’t have to cut the pod open, as they fall out of the pores on the outside, and are clearly visible before doing so.

All Magnolias share similar reproductive organs, so you can expect this with any cultivar.
