ground cover for shade

My neighbors and I are looking to replace Pachysandra that is growing in our area. We feel that Pachysandra is a haven for snakes and mice and want to replace with something that is pretty. A friend suggested Ajuga (Bugleweed). I am not sure it will grow in shade. Thank you for your time.

Ajuga would do well in a shade area, and will tolerate sun.
