grass issue

What is this and how to get rid of it? Growing on lawn near Beaumont, Texas. Temperatures are in high 90s, humidity never ends, had about 2 weeks of rainy days and been bone dry and hot for about a week.

This is known as a slime mold. Fortunately, it is harmless and actually a sign of a healthy, ecologically vibrant lawn. It does require moisture, so encouraging the area to dry out will kill it.

Slime molds can be white, yellow, or other colors. They are primitive organisms in the Protista kingdom. These articles explain more:
