Grapevine Trimming

Question

My grapevines are flourishing but have a lot of growth above where the new grapes are forming. They are on the fence in my pool area and are becoming invasive. Can I cut off the long shoots that have no grapes or does the vine need the nourishment from these to continue to produce?
