Germination Of Hearnut Seeds

Hello. I read your article on Heartnuts but it really didn’t go into details about how to germinate them. Do Heartnut seeds require cold stratification like most other nut trees before they will germinate? If so, would they be most similar to a Walnut in comparison for seed planting preparation? Thank you in advance for your response and information.

Yes, but be aware that with such age of the nuts, they will likely not germinate. You can test by putting them in a tub of water. Any that float will not be viable. If there are any that sink, then you may have a chance with those.

Stratification will be for, at least, 90 days. This can be done in refrigerator.
