Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comstill blistered, but the berries are the normal orange color. Are they safe to eat? We live in southern Wisconsin. The plant is about 10 years old, but only started producing black berries for about three years. Before that they were fine, and the leaves were fine, and we were eating the berries.

They should be fine since fruit is normal color. Bruised green fruit can turn black. Odd thing is there is a variety that produces black fruits, though rare in U.S.
The “blisters” could be leaf galls caused by gall mites. Treatment isn’t usually warranted once they appear. Prevention is the better option.
