English Ivy-Indoors

Question

I purchased a well growing, lush, English Ivy this summer. It was in a greenhouse with very bright, but protected light. It hung it in our screened porch in bright, protected light, with no direct sun. It fared alright, but not as spectacularly as it had been. I moved it indoors as the weather cooled off. We live in Minnesota with temps at that time of 40-50 degrees at night. Daytime temps varied at 50-60 degrees. I placed the hanging ivy in my kitchen window with 2-3 hrs./day of direct sun daily with an eastern exposure, as was the previous placement. I watered it well about every week and 1/2. I noticed after 2-3 weeks that the ivy was not doing well. The leaves, both old and new were turning yellow and dropping. I assumed it was the lighting, so I moved it to another room. It gets bright, but indirect light from the north. O improvement. I maintained the same schedule of watering. It is still in the same pot as when I purchased it, approx. 3 mo. ago. Clearly, I’m doing something wrong. Can you help me out?

You are likely overwatering the plant. It will need less water indoors then it did in the outdoor location.
It is best to check the soil before watering. English Ivy prefer to be on the dry side.

You also will need to provide a good amount of sunlight for the plant.
Misting the plant occasionally will also help.
