Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI have a very young tree – less than 10 years old, around 7. The tree itself seems in good shape, but it didn’t have leaves this year or most of last. Other than calling an arborist, is there something I can do to check or help it?

You can sometimes gently scrape the bark of branches and if you see green underneath, it is still alive. If it’s brittle and brown, then it’s dead.
